Richa Chadda is playing the titular role in an upcoming film Shakeela. The trailer of Shakeela starts with Silk Smitha’s death, and how she rises to prominence. Recently during the media interaction, she spoke about this film and the actress Shakeela.
When Richa Chadda was asked about the preparation to play Shakeela, to which she replied, “The different parts of the country have different ideals of beauty and s*x appeal. She was beautiful and attractive at whatever size. So, I had to work on that. I had to do justice to a real person and she was big, so I had to put on a bit of weight.”
When Richa Chadda was asked about her biggest take away from the film, to which she replied, “Shakeela didn’t want to do these films or be a star. Her mom pushed her into this industry to earn money. Her mother was a junior artiste. Shakeela was not interested in the adult movies at all, she only did what she did for the money. She realized that this is taking care of the family. For her, this was just her job.”
Directed by Kannada filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh and according to him, the upcoming film is an inspiring story because Shakeela ruled the Malayalam film industry for nearly a decade, and stood out as an arch rival to top male superstars in the film industry then.
