In 2007, Hollywood legend Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty were on stage for the AIDS Awareness event, when he planted a kiss on the B town actress’ cheek. Now according to the latest update, the Metropolitan Court No 16, has now discharged Shilpa Shetty from the obscenity case. The Court says ‘Shilpa Shetty Had Not Kissed, But Was Kissed’.
Hollywood legend Richard Gere hugged and kissed Shilpa Shetty publically on stage at a charity event in Delhi nearly 15 years ago, a display he later apologized for. Gere said he had been trying to show that kissing was a safe act that could not lead to the transmission of HIV. Soon after the event, this incident was met with protests by radical Hindus who considered Richard Gere’s actions to go against Indian values.
Following 2007 incident, an offence was registered under IT Act & Indecent Representation of the Women (Prohibition) Act of IPC since the complainant named Bhupsinh had found Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty’ gesture obscene.
Last week Additional Sessions Judge S C Jadhav said Obscenity on her part is not evident, while upholding a magistrate court’s order discharging Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty in the case. The detailed order was made available on Tuesday.
