According to the latest report, Karnataka high court sentenced a two-year jail sentence to senior Kannada actress Abhinaya in connection with a dowry harassment case.
She harassed his elder brother’s wife for dowry. Along with south actress Abhinaya, the court sentenced her brother Srinivas for 3 years, another brother Cheluvaraj for 2 years and mother Jayamma for five years. In 1998, Abhinaya’s elder brother Srinivas tied the knot with Lakshmi Devi. Four years later. in 2002, Lakshmi Devi lodged a complaint at Chandra Lay Out Police Station that she was being physically and mentally harassed by her in-laws. In her complaint, it is mentioned that her family had given Rs 80,000 cash and 250 grams gold ornaments as dowry when she got married to Srinivas in 1998. However the family started harassing her demanding further Rs one lakh in dowry. Later they sent her to her maternal home.
The matter went to court. Bangalore city court dismissed the case. However, Lakshmi Devi challenged the verdict in the High Court. Now the court has given a positive verdict to Lakshmi Devi. She expressed happiness that she got justice after 2 decades.
Abhinaya’ father Ramakrishna and Srinivas passed away during the hearing of the case.
