Sujata Kumar, the actress who played the role of SriDevi’s elder sister in English Vinglish, passed away on 19th August at 11.26 pm after suffering multiple organ failure. Sujata Kumar breathed her last at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital where she was admitted in the ICU. She was 53. The sad news about Sujata Kumar’s death was announced by her sister and actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi on her social media accounts. She wrote, “Our beloved Sujata Kumar has passed away and moved on to a better place leaving us with an umimaginable void. She left us an hour ago at 11.26 pm on the 19th of august 2018..Life can never be the same again …”
The actress was battling stage four cancer and was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. Sujata Kumar will be cremated at Juhu Crematorium.
On 18th August, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi informed about Sujata Kumar’s critical condition on Twitter “It feels like somebody’s plunged a hard cold knife into my heart & ripped the ground from under my feet as i sit outside ICU & pray for my big sis my mother my best friend my darling Sujata Kumar as she battles for her life inside Pls join me & my family in r prayers for her.”
Sujata Kumar is popular for her work in few hit movies – Guzaarish, Raanjhanaa and TV shows like Anil Kapoor’s 24. The actress had given up acting while she was suffering from cancer. With proper treatment and emotional support, Sujata Kumar’s life came back to normalcy after winning over cancer. And she made a comeback in English Vinglish starring Sridevi in which she played the role of Manu, in the direction of Gauri Shinde. Sujata Kumar, the ex-wife of Shekhar Kapur was hailed as a cancer survivor during the promotions of English Vinglish in 2012.
