Samantha Akkineni, who is popular for playing variety of roles in her movies, essayed the role of Rama Lakshmi in Sukumar’ directorial venture Rangasthalam in which Mega Power Star Ram Charan played the lead role and the village drama was blockbuster at the box office. Ram Charan played the role of deaf, light-hearted, and jolly villager, Chitti Babu. It is known news that Samantha Akkineni was not the first choice to play the female lead in Rangasthalam.
Earlier Sukumar had thought of roping in Samantha Akkineni as the female lead opposite Ram Charan but assumed that she might not accept the project as she got married. However, when he narrated the script to the actress, it came as a surprise to the director when Samantha gave her nod. It was also heard that Sukumar first approached Anupama Parameswaran to play the role of Rama Lakshmi in the film. But she couldn’t take it as she had other commitments.
In a recent episode of her talk show Sam Jam, Akkineni Bahu Samantha revealed that the assistant Directors in Sukumar’ team doubted if the movie lovers will accept a glamorous actress like Samantha Akkineni in a rustic village belle role. However, Sukumar trusted her and roped in Rangasthalam to play the female lead.
Samantha Akkineni also said that after hearing the narration of Rama Lakshmi character, she was very excited.
