Sultan of Johor‘s mother, Enche’ Besar Hajah Khalsom Abdullah, breathed her last in London on Friday. She was 83. The Johor palace’s press office had confirmed the news of Sultan’s mother death on Saturday morning.
Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar‘s mother Enche’ Besar Hajah Khalsom Abdullah passed away in London on 1st June. She was 83.
Hajah Khalsom, was born Josephine Ruby Trevorrow and she was married to Sultan Iskandar in 1956. After the marriage, she adopted the Muslim name Khalsom Abdullah. They had met in Britain where Sultan Iskandar was studying. The couple had four children- Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Kamariah Aminah, Tunku Besar Zabedah and Tunku Azizah. Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, is the wife of Pahang’s Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan conveyed their condolences message to Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on the passing off his mother, Enche’ Besar Hajah Khalsom Abdullah.
In a press conference at the Sultan Ibrahim building in Bukit Timbalan, The Johor Royal Court Council president Abdul Rahim Ramli said, “Hajah Khalsom died at King Edward VII’s Hospital in London at around 7.55pm (British time) last Friday and her body will be placed at Istana Besar for members of royalty and the public to pay their last respects before burial at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum in Johor Baru.” He further said, “The state flag is being flown at half-mast to mark her passing and will continue until the burial ceremony.”
Abdul Rahim Ramli added that Johor sultan was now in a state of sadness over his mother’s death.
Sultan Ibrahim shared a post on his Facebook and uploaded a pic of his mother. Sultan captioned it, “Al Fatihah”. The sultan’s sister Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah also confirmed the news of their mother’s death on Twitter.
