Supreme Court Judge Abhay S Oka opined that social media is becoming a big challenge for the new generation of judges. He said that it has ranged from expressing opinion on judgments to attributing malicious intent. Social media has become a headache for courts. He expressed concern that the courts and judges will face many problems from social media in the future. However, he stated that the trust and confidence of the people in the courts is the foundation of the judiciary. He said that as long as the faith of the people is strong, no matter what evil intentions are attributed to them, they will not have any effect on them.
Justice Abhay Oka was the chief guest at the conference being held at the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Center in Hyderabad under the auspices of the National Judicial Academy. He spoke on the topic of ‘Contemporary legal developments, strengthening the judiciary with law and technology’ in this two-day conference. Later, along with scrutiny, opinions would also be expressed. With the advent of social media, the courts, judgments and judges have been ascribed malicious intent. However, the courts have strong faith in the people. This is the property of the courts,” he said.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, another Supreme Court judge, said that equality between men and women is very important. Actions should be taken to implement the constitutional objectives along with the management of courts and the trial of cases. “It is not the responsibility of the courts to tell how women should dress and how husband and wife should behave,” he said.
