A married woman approached the court to allow her to abort her 26-week pregnancy. A bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Nagaratna, which first heard the case, allowed the abortion. Meanwhile, the Additional Solicitor General once again brought the suspicions of the doctors to the attention of the court. The court heard the opinion of the doctors who said that there are chances of the baby being born alive and fully healthy, and abortion is tantamount to infanticide. With that, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justice Pardhiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra heard the petition. Later, AIIMS Delhi ordered the doctors to stop the abortion procedure for the time being. As the doctors are in a state of confusion as to what decision to make, she suggests postponing the abortion for the time being. If they come forward with the relevant petition.
