Surender Reddy is one of the top directors from Tollywood. He has proven himself as one of the best commercial directors in Telugu Cinema. But he has a start stop career as his alternate film through out has failed to attract audience. Though he has hits like Atanokkade, Kick, Race Gurram etc., He also has flops like Ashok, Oosaravelli, Athidi etc., This sentiment continued with Megastar’s epic periodic drama Syeraa Narasimha Reddy.
It is a proud presentation from Konidela productions but the film has been effected with high costs. Syeraa has collected more than 100 crores in Telugu States alone but the film turned out to be below average here with the film has done business close to 125 crores. Outside Telugu States the film is a huge disaster not even recovering 25 percent of the investment. But Critics and audience have liked the film. All have appreciated the work of Surender Reddy and how well he handled a mega budgeted film. Only thing that hindered film’s success is high costs involved.
Having said that, Surender Reddy is now focussing on his next film. Currently he is busy in penning script for his next project. Currently he is keeping in mind two star heroes Mahesh Babu and Prabhas for his next movie. Mahesh is currently busy with his 26th project Sarileru Neekevvaru which is scheduled for release for Sankranthi. Prabhas has recovered from the failure of Saaho and is prepping to resume shooting for his next entertainer Jaan.
While Mahesh has not yet decided which movie to work on after Sarileru Neekevvaru, he is thinking to take three month break. On the other hand, Prabhas’s Jaan will take more than 6 months to complete. So chances are high that Surender Reddy will approach Mahesh first. They both delivered dud before with Athidi. Will they, this time deliver the goods??
