U Turn in which Samantha Akkineni is playing the lead role, is remake of Kannada film of the same title. The mystery thriller drama in which Shraddha Srinath played the role of a crime reporter and the film was shot in Bengaluru with the Double Road flyover as the backdrop, is available on Netflix. Pawan Kumar, the director and producer of U Turn, has sold the movie U-Turn to Netflix.
After launching his career as a writer in film and theatre, Pawan Kumar made his directing debut in 2011 with romantic entertainer Lifeu Ishtene, which was made on low budget. Rather than pursue a conventional release, Pawan Kumar put the entire film on Facebook using the now defunct Movie Locker VOD system. Recently during the media interaction Pawan Kumar said, “Within 5 minutes, someone watched the movie after paying 3 dollars. I received $2.80 from each transaction and everyone was talking about the film.” Later Pawan Kaumar sold his next film Lucia. Then he decided to make U Turn, his third movie. On 8th May, U Turn was premiered at New York Indian Film Festival. The movie received a pan-India theatrical release from 20th May, with Mumbai-based indie distributor Drishyam Films handling all regions outside the Karnataka. Jolly Hits, an international distributor of Kannada films, handled theatrical outside the India. Pawan Kumar sold the SVOD rights of U-Turn to Netflix.
Pawan Kumar said, “If we sold the rights to a single TV network, we can make more money but limited reach. Netflix has 70 million viewers worldwide and I really want to reach out to that audience.”
The U Turn is being made in Tamil and Telugu. Yesterday the makers released the theatrical trailer of Samantha Akkineni starrerr U Turn, which received decent response by movie lovers. Aadhi Pinisetty is play the role of cop.
