A new trend has emerged in Tollywood – fan shows. Previously released movies, usually blockbusters, are re-released for a limited number of shows after being touched up with the latest technology. The trend started recently when Telugu Superstar Mahesh Babu starrer Pokiri, a movie that released 16 years ago, was remastered and re-released in 4k technology in the US. Soon, the makers of Jalsa starring Pawan Kalyan and Ileana D Cruz, followed suit. Re-released on September 1, Jalsa had special shows for two days.
Ever since the re-release of the blockbuster drama Pokiri happened to celebrate Mahesh Babu birthday, every other actor fans too have started to catch up the above trend of releasing blockbuster old movies and celebrating their favorite stars important days. The fans enjoyed watching films like Pokiri, Jalsa and Billa in theatres. Recently Varsham starring Rebel star Prabhas and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles was re-released at the request of fans, who celebrated the special film on a grand note.
Except for a few areas like Kukatpally and RTC X Roads, the theatres in none of the other areas reported housefuls. In some theatres, Varsham shows were cancelled due to less number of audiences. In some others, there were less than 30 audiences in the cinema hall, it means Vasrsham re-release turned out a huge loss venture for the buyers.
