In AP- Andhra Pradesh, 3 people died while several were injured in a public gathering held by Telugu Desam Party president- TDP and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s in Guntur district on Sunday, days after a stampede-like situation killed 8 people in one of his other rally in Nellore. This is 2nd occasion in a span of 4 days when people lost their lives at programmes of Chandrababu Naidu, who has been holding a series of the political meetings across the state in preparation for 2024 assembly elections in AP state.
Chandrababu Naidu said that this stampede was extremely unfortunate and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each of the families that have lost their loved ones.
Chandrababu Naidu had addressed the gathering and distributed the gifts as part of the exercise undertaken by a charitable organization, Vuyyuru Charitable Trust.
A police officer revealed that public meeting had been completed and Chandrababu Naidu had left venue for his residence when the tragedy took place.
The Police also revealed that while 2 people died due to suffocation, a lady succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the government hospital.
AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed shock over the stampede.
