Tamil star and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder Vijayakanth, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Thursday after a prolonged illness. The actor and Politician was 71. He due to pneumonia. He tested positive for Covid-19/coronavirus and was on ventilator support. Condolences have been coming in from his legions of Vijayakanth’ fans and colleagues.
The popular actor Vijayakanth’s death marks the end of an influential chapter in Tamil Nadu State’s political history and leaves a void in the state’s diverse political tapestry.
Before entering politics Vijayakanth was a successful actor, director and producer. He acted in 154 movies and is one of the most adored film personalities in Kollywood.
The sources revealed that Mortal remains of Vijayakanth is being taken now from his Virugambakkam house to DMDK office in Koyambedu.
Vijayakanth was the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. He was the founder and president of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam Political party and served as a Member of Legislative Assembly twice representing the constituency of Rishivandiyam and Virudhachalam respectively.
He was was born as Vijayaraj Alagarswami in Madurai on 25 August 1952. His parents were KN Alagarswami and Aandal Azhagarswami.
