Andhra Pradesh, Telangana hand over irrigation projects to KRMB

The states of AP and Telangana have agreed to hand over the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). A board meeting was held under the chairmanship of Krishna Board Chairman Shivnandan Kumar at Hyderabad Jalasaudha on Thursday.

In the meeting which lasted for about an hour and a half, the remaining 10 water release outlets, Srisailam project spillway along with river sluice gates, Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, Muchumurri Lift Scheme, Mahatma Gandhi Kalvakurti Lift Scheme,  Handri-Neeva Sujala Stream, Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal Head Regulator were discussed in the meeting. AMMAR uplift scheme-pump house vicinity, Nagarjuna Sagar flood water Canal -head regulator- surrounding areas, river sluice gates along with Sagar project spillway, head regulator of Nagarjunasagar right canal were discussed.

The ENCs of the two states have agreed to take the entire management of gates and water release under the control of the board. It has been decided to appoint one employee from Telangana and one from AP under the direct control of KRMB for water release.

Both the states have agreed to assign staff to work under the board’s control at the rate of 30 in three shifts out of a total of 10 points. A three-member committee of the board will be formed for water release. Member Secretary DM Raipure, Telangana ENC C. Muralidhar and AP ENC C. Narayana Reddy will be in this board.
