Jagan‘s government suffered a setback in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The High Court struck down GO No 1 issued by the state government. The verdict was issued suspending GO No 1. The High Court opined that this is a violation of the fundamental rights. It is known that the state government has issued GO No  1 imposing restrictions on meetings, road shows and rallies in the state. CPI leader Ramakrishna filed a PIL in the High Court challenging this GO No 1. Others also filed petitions in the High Court challenging the same.

On behalf of the petitioners, the lawyer argued that there is a plan to stop the road shows of the political parties in the state in connection with these petitions. However, a bench comprising Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and DVSS Somajays reserved the judgment after conducting an in-depth investigation on these petitions. The latest judgment has been issued.

Further, the government has taken a decision to ban meetings and rallies on national, state, municipal and panchayat roads in the state due to the stampede incidents in Kandukur and Guntur assemblies in which TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu participated. Under the Police Act, 1861, Principal Secretary, Home Department Harish Kumar Gupta issued an order to this effect on 2nd Jan. In those orders, the government made it clear that meetings should be held in areas where there are no problems for the people. It has warned that strict action will be taken against the organizers if the rules are violated.
