The doors of the sanctum sanctorum, which is under construction as part of the Ram Mandir at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, will be plated with gold.

The work will be completed before Ram Lalla’s idol dedication in the first week of January. While there are 46 gates in the sanctum sanctorum of Ram Mandir, 18 gates on the ground floor will be gold plated. On January 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform the final rites in the Prana Pratishtha after enshrining the idol of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum.

All these doors are made of special teak wood from Chandrapur, Maharashtra. These are carved by artists from Hyderabad. The doors installed on the ground floor are coated with a fine layer of copper and then gold plated.

Anil Mishra, a member of Sri Rama Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust, said, “The gold used for the doors is from what the devotees have offered to the temple.” Answering the question about how much gold is being applied to the doors, Mishra said, “I don’t have those details.’”

Sources said that the responsibility of applying gold plates to the doors of the sanctum sanctorum has been given to a jewelers firm from Ghaziabad, seven doors have been completed and the rest will be completed soon.
