Bharat bandh on Feb 16 farmers raise protests

Farmers, to file their protests before the Centre, have announced nationwide bandh from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, along with central trade unions on February 16. Particularly, the central trade unions urged all farmer organisations to come together and participate in the Gramin Bharat Bandh tomorrow. The Bharat Bandh will be initiated as hundreds of farmers marching from Punjab have been stopped at the state’s border with Haryana near Ambala, about 200 km away from Delhi. They demand for a law guaranteeing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their products.

In order to oppose their incompetence, security forces in Haryana have used tear gas on them. Also, the Delhi Police said that they would not allow the protesters to enter Delhi should they advance.

The nationwide bandh will start at 6 am and will end at 4 pm tomorrow. Agricultural activities, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act rural works, private offices, transportation, rural industrial and service sector institutions and village shops will remain closed tomorrow.

Reportedly, there will be allowance for emergency services like ambulance operations, marriage, medical shops, newspaper distribution, students going for board exams, etc.
