Ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Karnataka, BJP suffered an embarrassment when the son of one of its MLAs was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh in his father’s office Thursday evening. The arrest came after Lokayukta police acted on a tip-off. Meanwhile, a search of the accused’ residence resulted in the seizure of unaccounted cash amounting to a whopping Rs 6 Cr.
Lokayukta Police arrested Prashanth Madal, son of Chennaigiri BJP MLA K. Madal Virupaksappa, while taking bribe from a person in his father’s office. At that time, a video of him pouring heaps of cash on the table went viral on social media.
Prashant Madal works as Chief Accountant in Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). He was caught accepting bribes on behalf of his father, who was also the chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (K&SDL). The police said that the actual demand was for Rs 81 lakh, of which the individual was handing over Rs 40 lakh.
From the office where Prashanth was caught, the Police said that 1.2 crores have been seized. Lokayukta police also visited Prashant’s residence in Dollars Colony, Sanjaynagar. The follow-up raid at the residence led to seizure of unaccounted cash totalling Rs 6 cr.
