In Telangana, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress are making Kaleshwaram project an important issue against the KCR. This issue remains in constant discussion amid the assembly elections in the state. The opposition is accusing the BRS government of corruption regarding this project worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Now BJP leader N Ramachander Rao has demanded to hand over the investigation of Kaleshwaram project to CBI.
The BJP leader said, ‘The Kaleshwaram project has indeed been constructed at a higher cost than required. BJP has said many times in the Council and Assembly that this project is an ATM for the BRS government. Rao stressed that after the CAG report, the case should be immediately handed over to the CBI for investigation.
He said that after the CAG report it is clear that wasteful expenditure has been made to make hasty money. This case should now be handed over to CBI for investigation. We demand that the Congress government of Telangana immediately hand over the investigation of Kaleshwaram case to CBI.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on Thursday presented a disappointing report on Telangana’s Kaleshwaram project. It has been said that it was of no economic use from the beginning. It details the huge cost overruns, possible unfair advantages given to contractors and the poor planning involved.
It said the cost of the Kaleshwaram project, touted as the world’ largest multistage lift irrigation project, is now likely to exceed Rs 1.47 lakh cr. But, the Central Water Commission has estimated it to be Rs 81,911 cr.
