Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that solar electricity will be made available to 1 Cr homes across the country. She said that besides encouraging the use of solar power, the Center is working to reduce the electricity burden on poor and middle class people.
On Thursday, Nirmala Sitharaman said while announcing the interim Budget 2024, “Through rooftop solarisation, 1 cr households will be enabled to obtain up to 300 units of free electricity every month.”
Up to 300 units of electricity will be provided free of cost to 1 crore houses. The free electricity will be provided to the people through rooftop solarisation.
She added that it would also help the adoption of electric vehicles by providing charging stations at home.
Nirmala Sitharaman added: “The expected benefits through rooftop solarisation include: “Savings up to Rs 15,000 – Rs 18,000 to households from the free solar electricity and selling surplus to discoms.”
Allocations for various welfare and other schemes
Rural employment guarantee: Rs 86,000 cr
Manufacturing of semi-conductors, display eco systems: Rs 6,903 cr
Ayushman Bharat: Rs 7,500 cr
Industrial incentives: Rs 6,200 cr
Green hydrogen mission: Rs 600 cr
