While the opposition in the country is getting angry over the news that the central government is going to change the name of India to Bharat, it seems that the neighboring country China has shown almost the same attitude as the Indian opposition. The indirect argument goes that India has more important issues than changing the name of the country. A big article to this extent has been published in the Global Times, which is considered to be the mouthpiece of the Chinese government.

India is considering the G20 summit as an opportunity to increase its reputation internationally. However, it suggested to focus on the important aspects rather than the name. Can India comprehensively reform its shadow economy of pre-1947? That is the key. It expressed the view that India could not see revolutionary development without revolutionary reform.

It is hopeful that India can use the growing international importance as its growth driver. “At a time when the attention of the international community is focused on the upcoming G20 conference, what does New Delhi want to tell the world?” asked. Changing the name is said to erase the shadow of colonial rule.

The Modi government has been one of the most ambitious governments in terms of economic reforms since 1991. Unfortunately, India is moving towards protectionism in terms of trade.
