 CM Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the Lakkasagaram Lift Scheme to provide safe fresh water – irrigation water to the people of Kurnool district. The scheme was launched along with Ministers Ambati Rambabu and Buggana Rajendranath Reddy. CM Jagan on Tuesday inaugurated the Lakkasagaram pump house to relieve the hardships of the rice farmers so that the Krishna waters run in the soil where crops grow only when it rains.

10, 394 acres will be irrigated, providing drinking water to the people of Don, Pattikonda, Aluru and Panyam constituencies, 77 ponds will be irrigated. With the intention of diverting Handriniva water to 77 ponds in Doan, Pattikonda, Aluru and Panyam constituencies and quenching the thirst of the drought, and greening the plants with Krishna waters. The lift scheme was constructed at a cost of 224.31 crores.

In the first phase, 77 ponds in Meraka areas of Kurnool district will be supplied with drinking and irrigation water from the main canal of Handriniva Sujala stream. 4,260 acres under 36 ponds in Doan constituency and 5,784 acres under 36 ponds in Pattikonda constituency.

197 acres under 3 ponds in Aluru constituency, 153 acres under 2 ponds in Panyam constituency totaling 10,394 acres under 77 ponds. The people of the 4 constituencies will get potable water, groundwater will increase and the farmers will get an opportunity to grow abundant crops. The government says the program is to fill ponds for farmers in the drought-stricken western region of Kurnool district, which is dependent on rainfall.

A pump house will be constructed at Kurmagiri (Alamkonda) on the main canal of Handri Neeva. 1.4 TMC of water pumped 5.6 km in 90 days by 3X3,800 HP motors. m. Water diversion is supplied through three gravity pipe lines to the delivery chamber on the hill through a pressure main. 4,217 acres of Ayakattu is irrigated under 22 ponds through Gravity Pipe Line-1.
