AP CM Jagan has written a letter to Prime Minister Modi on Krishna waters. In the recently held Union Cabinet, it was decided to propose fresh procedures to the Brijeshkumar Tribunal for distribution among the Telugu states. AP Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy responded in the face of criticism from the opposition parties. While on a visit to Delhi, he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said it is not feasible to exclude Maharashtra and Karnataka from the latest rules and limit them to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Prime Minister Modi brought to the attention of the people of AP that the approval of the Union Cabinet to issue more procedures to the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-2 has surprised the people of AP.

He asked to take into consideration the concerns of the people of AP and issue instructions to the concerned persons not to take any further action in this regard. Brijesh Kumar said that 5 SLPs have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the tribunal. It was reminded that the united Andhra Pradesh had requested the Supreme Court to set aside the report of the Tribunal as per Section 5(2). All the SLPs are currently pending in the Supreme Court, this issue was brought to the attention of the Union Hydropower Minister on 17th August 2021 and 25th June 2022.

In view of the appeal made by the Telangana Government on July 14, 2014, it is stated in the letter that these procedures have been restricted to Telugu states only. It is believed that this decision is likely to disrupt the interests of the people of AP who depend on the Krishna river flows.

CM Jagan, who is currently on a visit to Delhi, met Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday night. The Union Cabinet’s decision to propose new regulations on Krishna waters has been appealed to be stopped immediately.
