Gyms are the most popular choice for people to exercise today. Exercising in the gym is very beneficial for the body. Regular exercise helps in toning and strengthening the body as well as reducing stress and increasing energy levels in the body. But it is said that excessive sweating caused by working out can lead to many serious infections. 

A variety of bacteria, viruses, and fungi thrive in the warm, closed, and humid environment of a gym.  Shared gym equipment such as kettlebells, dumbbells,  and yoga mats can cause germs to come directly onto the skin. And it leads to skin diseases. .

These are some of the skin infections. 

Worm bite: Ringworm is a fungal infection.  It appears as a circular itch and redness.  The sweaty equipment and seats are more prone to disease. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, ringworm usually occurs within 3 to 10 days of contact with the fungus. It can be treated with a ntifungal creams, lotions, and sprays. 

Athlete’s foot: Also known as tinea pedis or athlete’s foot. It is a fungal infection. It mostly occurs between the toes. The skin will also be itchy, dry and red. Sometimes blisters and scabs form on the skin. Treatment is antifungal ointments, creams and gels. 

Warts: Warts are rough bumps on the skin. They are also present on the soles of the feet. Warts called verrucae warts are caused by human papillomavirus attack due to humid environment in the gym. 

Staphylococcus : Staph or Staphylococcus is a type of bacterial infection.  It is a very contagious infection. It can spread through shared gym equipment, clothing, and towels.
