As  Telangana Assembly term ending in January 2024, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has focused on assessing the readiness of the state’s election authorities to conduct elections smoothly. In this sequence, a high-level EC delegation comprising Senior Deputy Election Commissioners, Election Commissioners and senior officers reached the city on Thursday for a three-day visit. 

EC  team held a meeting with the Chief Secretary of the Telangana government as part of the preparations for the assembly polls to be held later this year. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state said in a statement that Telangana Chief Secretary A Shanthikumari met with the EC officials and assured that they will provide all necessary assistance for the smooth conduct of the elections.

The delegation will hold talks with District Collectors, Superintendents of Police and other senior officials to explain the importance of starting preparations early, officials said before EC tour. He also said that as part of the preparations, there is an opportunity to educate the Collectors/SPs on the issues to be focused on. Senior officials said that the delegation will focus on the election preparations and whether the election machinery is on the right track or not. Deletion of names from the electoral roll is one of the major problems in the current year, which is more than previous years, officials said.

 ECI completed the three-day tour of the state. Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari met with EC officials and assured them of all the logistical support required to conduct the Telangana assembly elections smoothly.
