Election Commission – EC has put brakes on distribution of Rythu Bandhu funds in Telangana. The Election Commission has announced the cancellation of the permits granted two days ago in the wake of violations of the Election Code. The EC has made it clear that the permits are being revoked in the wake of Harish Rao’s comments.
The state government has announced to deposit the cash in the accounts of the farmers on November 28 with the permission of the EC. The decision of the EC was highly controversial and had to face a lot of criticism. Several political parties appealed to the Central Election Commission to ban direct cash transfer schemes immediately after the notification of elections in Telangana.
There has been criticism that the ruling party is trying to influence voters through schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Dalit Bandhu. On the other hand, the state government has asked the EC to allow funds to be deposited in the farmers’ accounts this year as Rythu Bandhu has been distributing for Yasangi crops for four years.
In this context, two days ago the EC allowed the release of Rythu Bandhu funds. In the wake of criticism that the Election Commission had allowed the distribution of funds to benefit the BRS party in Telangana, the EC had taken corrective measures. Rythu Bandhu has announced that it is withdrawing the permissions issued for the distribution of funds.
