EC revoked the suspension of former DGP Anjani Kumar for violating the Election Code.

Central Election Commission has given a reprieve to Telangana’s former DGP Anjani Kumar. On the day of release of Telangana assembly election results, the EC expressed anger that IPS officers went to Revanth Reddy’s residence to congratulate him before the full results were revealed. It accused the DGP that the officials went to meet Revanth Reddy for personal interests and benefits.

DGP Anjani Kumar Yadav briefed the Central Election Commission on the developments on the day the election results were announced. The Election Commission, satisfied with the DGP’s explanation, issued an order lifting the suspension.

The Election Commission on December 3 issued orders suspending Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar for violating the election code of conduct while the counting of votes in the state continued.

The DGP along with State Police Nodal Officer Sanjay Jain and Election Nodal Officer (Election Expenditure) Mahesh Bhagwat went to Revanth Reddy’ residence in Hyderabad at the time of counting of votes. State Congress President Revanth Reddy was felicitated with a flower bouquet.

EC expressed its displeasure on meeting a candidate of a party in the contesting election out of a total of 2,290 candidates. The EC opined that the DGP’s choice to meet the star campaigner of a political party out of 16 political parties was a malicious act. Recently, the suspension imposed on the DGP was lifted. The EC has also asked two other senior IPS officers to join the DGP.
