With the Election Code coming into force in Telangana, extensive checks are being conducted. In Sangareddy and Vikarabad districts, cash of Rs.12 lakhs, which was being transported without proper documents, was seized.
Rs 12 lakhs were seized during the checks conducted by the police in Sangareddy and Vikarabad districts. After the election code came into force in the state from Monday, the police conducted inspections in the neighboring Vikarabad district along with the joint Medak district. Checkposts have been set up on the national highway from Hyderabad to Mumbai.
During the inspections conducted under the leadership of Sangareddy DSP Ravi Kumar, the Sangareddy Rural Police found that a man was carrying Rs. 7 lakhs were seized. The inspections started at midnight on Monday and continued till early morning on Tuesday.
During the checks carried out in Moinabad police station and Mominpet police station in Vikarabad district, the police seized money worth Rs 5 lakh from another person who was carrying it without proper papers. Across the joint district, the police conducted inspections.
Police officers conducted checks on busy roads like Mumbai-Hyderabad, Nanded-Akola-Sangareddy, Rajiv Road and other main roads. Election officials will return the money to those people if they show proper documents, he said.
In the wake of the implementation of the Election Code, Siddipet Police Commissioner N. Swetha has ordered the police officers to act strictly. Orders were given to seize 28 licensed guns in the district by October 16 at the respective police stations.
