Election Commission releases date of Rajya Sabha election to 56 seats from 15 States

Election Commission on Monday released the date for the Rajya Sabha elections to 56 seats from 15 states of India.

Central Election Commission released the schedule for Rajya Sabha elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states. The schedule for the Rajya Sabha elections in 56 seats in 15 states of the country has been released.

The tenure of Joginapalli Santosh, Badugula Lingaya Yadav, Vadviraju Ravichandar of Bharat Rashtra Samithi from Telangana, CM Ramesh of BJP from Andhra Pradesh, Kanakamedala Ravindrakumar of Telugu Desam Party – TDP and Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy of YSRCP will end. This made Rajya Sabha elections inevitable.

The notification regarding the Rajya Sabha elections will be released on 8th February  this year. February 15 is the last date for filing nominations. February 20 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Polling will be held on February 27 from 9 am to 4 pm. The Central Election Commission has directed to complete the polling process by February 29. 

56 people will retire in the month of April this year. Elections will be held to fill those positions. The states where the elections for the Rajya Sabha are scheduled to occur encompass Uttar Pradesh (10), Maharashtra (6), Rajasthan (3), Odisha (3), Gujarat (4), Karnataka (4), Andhra Pradesh (3), Bihar (6), West Bengal (5), Madhya Pradesh (5), Telangana (3), Uttarakhand (1), Chhattisgarh (1), Haryana (1), and Himachal Pradesh (1).

Tenure of 50 Rajya Sabha members is scheduled to end on 2 April while the term of the remaining six will end on 3 April.
