EX-MLA of Andhra Pradesh escaped when the Telangana Police raided a place in Patancheru near here where he had organized a cockfight. Chintamaneni Prabhakar, a former MLA of Telugu Desam had organised the cockfight at a mango grove. The police raided the place on Wednesday night and arrested 21 people. However, 50 others, including Chintamaneni Prabhakar managed to escape.

A police team raided the mango grove in Pedda Kanjarla village where a large group of the people was engaged in betting on cockfights under the lights. TDP former MLA Prabhakar was present at the spot where the cock-fights were being held and fled from the spot on seeing the police.

Patancheru Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhim Reddy said they conducted the raid after receiving information that EX-MLA Prabhakar was organising  the cockfights. The police team found about 70 people there but most of them, including  the  Telugu Desam Party leader and former Dendulur Prabhakar managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

According to the latest report, the  police seized 100 cocks, Rs 13.12 lakh cash, 26 vehicles and 27 mobile phones. Among those arrested were Krishnam Raju, Akkineni Satish,  and B Srinu. As per  Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and the Andhra Pradesh Gaming Act, 1974, cockfights are illegal.

On the otherside, Chintamaneni Prabhakar condemned the allegations that he participated in the cock fights held in Patancher.
