Rajiv Gandhi the 6th Prime Minister of India was assassinated on 21st May 1991. The Gandhi’s Killer, Nalini Sriharan who has been serving a life term imprisonment has got relief for a month by the Madras High Court. According to the reports, Nalini has got a month leave for her daughter Harithra’s wedding. As per the cops, as soon as she stepped out of jail, she was welcomed by her mother who is a retired nurse. Nalini’s daughter who is pursuing her medical degree in the UK is expected to meet her next week.
Nalini was given leave with a bunch of conditions by the authorities. During the leave period, Rajiv Gandhi killer shouldn’t meet any politician or speak to media and she is even restricted to leave Vellore. In the last month, Nalini has argued for herself in the court and made an emotional appeal. She said, “I could not look after my daughter. I did not fulfill my motherly responsibilities, I did not fulfill my responsibilities to my father before he died. Now I’ve to meet my family for my daughter’s wedding. I’ve to arrange for finances.”
Before granting the order on leave, Justice MM Sundaresh, explained to her that government rules only confined to a maximum of 30 days leave. This one month leave stands as the first time in the Nalini’s 28 years of imprisonment.
