 Gaganyaan mission PM Modi reveals 4 astronaut-designates selected to go to space

Prime Minister Modi revealed the names of four astronauts for the Gaganyaan mission.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the names of the four astronauts who will travel on India’s first manned space mission. They are- Group Captain P Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajith Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, Wing Commander S Shukla. Modi gave ‘astronaut wings’ to all of them.

Prime Minister Modi, who is on a visit to Kerala, visited VSSC (Vikram Sarabhai Space Center) in Thiruvananthapuram. He reviewed the progress of Gaganyaan mission. After that, he met the astronauts who were selected for the mission.

ISRO has planned to launch this Gaganyaan mission in the middle of 2024-25. The objective of this mission is to place astronauts in low Earth orbit for three days and bring them safely to India.

All the astronauts have undergone extensive training at Russia and the program is now underway in India at Isro training facility. Gaganyaan spacecraft, designed to accommodate astronauts, is being developed with the advanced technology to ensure the success of the mission.
