Currently, WhatsApp chat backups on Google Drive are cost-free and don’t count against your Google Drive storage quota. But, this system will be varied in the upcoming days, as Google has decided to discontinue offering unlimited plan to store your WhatsApp backups.

In lieu of an unlimited plan, the company is planning to provide a limited plan for the storage. Especially, the company is keen on the initiation in changes for backups and notifications about when Google Drive is almost full, when the limit is reached and information about when the alterations take effect.
The updates which will be available in the coming days, have been shared by the report in the form of a screenshot. The screenshot tells that WhatsApp backups on Google Drive will  be free, but it will be a limited plan. But there is no extended detailed information about the novel plan for storage. There may be a new section, where users can exclude specific media to be included in the following backup.
As Google prohibited offering unlimited storage for Google photos last year, this is not the first time for the company to discontinue the unlimited offer for the storage now. After an agreement between WhatsApp and Google in 2018, WhatsApp backups do not count against the Google Drive storage quota. WhatsApp backups that have not been updated in more than 1 year are removed from Google Drive automatically. And, WhatsApp backups are connected to the phone number and Google account they were created.
