It is known that the United Nations recently stated that India will become the most populous country in the world by the end of the first half of this year. Elon Musk, the head of Twitter and Space X, recently responded to this development. Elon Musk commented that the population determines the per capita income of the country. To this extent, he tweeted saying ‘Demographics is destiny’.
Elon Musk, who believes that population growth is the most important factor for a country’s development, has himself fathered a large number of children. He currently has nine children. Musk has previously warned that human societies will die out if the population declines. It is believed that population decline is more dangerous than climate change.
Since the 1950s, United Nations has been collecting world population figures. Based on these, the list of countries is being released. However, this is the first time that India will reach the No 1 position in this list. China has been the most populous country for several years. But, facing problems with overpopulation, China implemented the ‘One Child Policy’ in the 1980s. Restrictions were imposed on couples from having more than one child. However, the Chinese government has put a full stop to the one-child policy in 2016, realizing that the population is shrinking. Currently, young couples are encouraged to have at least three children.
