Minister KTR‘s effort to merge Secunderabad Cantonment with GHMC has finally paid off. The defense department has agreed to merge the cantonment area with the GHMC. Minister of State for Defense Ajay gave an answer on Cantonment merger in Lok Sabha. He said that the merger process has been speeded up and the merger with GHMC is a formality. The Minister of State for Defense gave a written reply to a question asked by MP Mangal Suresh Angadi about how far the merger of cantonments has come. It has been clarified that the decisions of the respective state governments have been accepted and discussions are going on regarding the cantonment board employees and pensions. Telangana and Jharkhand state governments have agreed to the merger of the cantonment area. They are working on these. It is stated that soon the cantonment areas will be merged into the municipalities.

KTR’s struggle to merge the cantonment area into GHMC seems to have succeeded. Minister KTR has written several letters to the Center to merge the settlements in the Secunderabad Cantonment area into the GHMC. Appeals were also given to Union Ministers individually. He told the center that the merger was the solution to the problems faced by the people in the cantonment area. With the requests coming from the states, the Center has also expressed its willingness on this matter.

An in-principle agreement has been given to merge the Secunderabad Cantonment area under the control of the Defense Department into the GHMC. With this, Minister KTR made it clear that a permanent solution will be found to the problems that have been arising for decades.
