Popular singer Gaddar passed away. Gaddar, who played a key role in the Telangana movement, has been suffering from illness for a few days. Gaddar died in Hyderabad at Apollo Spectra Hospital hospital on August 6 while undergoing treatment for heart related ailment
He died due to lung and urinary problems and advanced age, the hospital said in a statement. He was suffering from severe heart disease and got admitted on 20th July. He underwent a bypass surgery on 3rd August and recovered from it, the hospital said.
Gaddar was born in 1949 in Tufran and his real name was Vithal Rao. With the death of Gaddar, the song of Telangana has become mute. Celebrities paid tribute to Gaddar’ body. Gaddar’s last rites will be held with formal rites on Monday.
Revolutionary balladeer and renowned folk singer Gaddar was close to Telangana aspirations and he used his music to reach out to the masses and expose the injustice meted out to the region.
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, her Haryana counterpart Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana Chief Minister KCR, top Congress leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as well as Telugu Desam Party- TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and several other leaders from both Telugu States- Telangana and Andhra Pradesh expressed grief at the demise of Gaddar.
