Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said recently, “As a mark of gratitude to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for granting statehood, Telangana Congress Committee has requested her to contest 2024 Lok Sabha elections from any of the seats in the State.”
Telangana Congress in its Political Affairs Committee meeting recently passed a resolution requesting Sonia Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the state.
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy attended the meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan, Telangana Congress headquarters.
The former minister Shabbir Ali recently interacted with the media and said the PAC also passed a resolution thanking the senior leadership who campaigned for the party during the recent assembly polls.
Shabbir Ali said, “The PAC unanimously passed a resolution requesting Sonia Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Telangana. We are going to write a letter to Sonia Gandhi and also to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. Former PM Indira Gandhi also contested from Medak earlier. We want Sonia Gandhi to repeat it.”
In the past, the late PM Indira Gandhi contested from Medak (erstwhile Andhra Pradesh) in the 1980 polls. Indira was elected from the seat by a staggering margin of over 3 lakh votes and represented the constituency till her assassination in the year 1984.
