TDP MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao has been shot dead by Maoists in Visakhapatnam district of AP today.
Two Andhra Pradesh lawmakers were shot dead by Maoists today (23rd September 2018) morning in Visakhapatnam district. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao from Araku Valley and ex-MLA Siveri Soma were attacked by Naxals when they were attending a party in Livitiput, 15 km from Araku Valley. The sources say that the attack occurred in the interiors of the district.
The Maoists opened fire on Kidari Sarveswara Rao and Siveri Soma when they reached the district to attend a party meeting.
They were shot dead from point blank range in Dumbriguda mandal of Araku valley in Visakhapatnam district.
Araku Valley in Visakhapatnam district of AP is a tribal region that shares border with Odisha. This area is known as the operational base of the Maoist central committee member Ramakrishna alias RK.
The Police said, “The Maoists used people as human shields and escaped with weapons that the personal security officers of the lawmaker were carrying.”
The sources say that the Maoists stopped the vehicles forcefully in which the two TDP MLAs were travelling. When Kidari Sarveswara Rao and Siveri Soma stopped the car, the maoists shot them dead. Later, after the matter was reported, the police rushed to spot and found the bullet-ridden bodies of Kidari Sarveswara Rao, and Siveri Soma lying in a pool of blood.
Andhra Pradesh MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao came to power in 2014 after getting a ticket from Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP). Later, in April 2016, he left the state ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) party. He was looking for a ministerial berth in Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu cabinet.
MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao was earlier warned by Maoists not to encourage mining in agency areas.
