The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to take steps to introduce a column to facilitate caste and religion. To this extent, it gave a sensational verdict on Wednesday. It ordered that the columns ‘No Caste’ and ‘No Religion’ should be included in the birth certificate without fail. It has been clarified that every citizen has the right to renounce caste and religion.
Justice Kanneganti Lalitha was dealing with the plea which was filed by David Ajjpagu and Swaroopa Sandepu who sought the option for declaring their kid status as no caste and no religion in the govt records, including birth certificate.
The court directed the authorities to include a column of the No Caste and No Religion in online applications considering the choice of citizens who wish to practice or profess no religion or caste.
Telangana High Court said that citizens have the right, similar to the freedom of religion guaranteed under Article 25 of the Constitution, to choose not to practice any caste and religion.
