Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that a committee has been set up to examine the feasibility of the ‘one country, one election’ policy of holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. In this order, YSRCP leader Vijayasai Reddy responded on ‘One Nation, One Election’. 

Vijayasai Reddy said that there are many positives in the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal and thousands of crores of rupees can be saved. VijayaSai Reddy, who is also a member of the Rajya Sabha from the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, expressed his views in the context of the formation of a committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind by the central government to study the feasibility of holding simultaneous elections to state assemblies and Lok Sabhas.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that a committee has been set up to examine the feasibility of the ‘one country, one election’ policy of holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The idea of simultaneous elections is not new, the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have also made several comments in the past. In this order, YSRCP leader Vijayasai Reddy responded on ‘One Nation, One Election’. 

“The concept of One Nation, One Election has many positives. Above all, it will save thousands of crores of rupees,” said Vijayasai Reddy. He emphasized that the concept of one country one election is not new to India. General and state elections were held simultaneously in 1951-52, 1957, 1962 and 1967. Vijayasai Reddy said, “In India, Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections were held simultaneously in 1951-52, 1957, 1962 & 1967. For us in Andhra Pradesh, it does not affect us as the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections coincide.
