Vijayashanti, was formally inducted in the presence of the Congress chief Mallaikarjun Kharge at an event in Hyderabad.

Vijayashanti started her political career with the BJP in the year 1997. She left the party and joined TRS during its fight for a separate Telangana. The actress turned politician was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009. Later she joined the Congress party in the year 2014, just before Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated and Telangana was born.
