What is the need of TDP in Telangana?

The news of TDP joining hands with BJP in Telangana has been doing the rounds for the past few days. After TDP President Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Delhi and his meeting with Amit Shah, these speculations got more momentum.  Some articles have appeared in some newspapers that Chandrababu Naidu went to Delhi and held a meeting with BJP National President Nadda on Amit Shah’s invitation.

In fact, Chandrababu Naidu has not made any efforts to get closer to BJP, which has come to power for the second time at the centre. Several embassies were sent by TDP’ Sujana Chaudhary and CM Ramesh, but they failed. After 2018, the party took political criticism of the BJP as well as personal vilification of  Narendra Modi seriously.

BJP leaders say that activities like pelting stones, showing black flags and protesting with black balloons against the Prime Minister during Amit Shah’s visit made the party come to the decision of never forming a political alliance with the TDP.

Although it is true that there are no permanent friends and permanent enemies in politics, the party leaders say that the BJP is tired of Chandrababu’s opportunistic politics. In fact, the BJP’s efforts to become a strong force in the south have not been fruitful. He had to lose power in Karnataka too. On the other hand, even if the party is strengthened in Telangana, there are doubts about getting power on its own. If the same pattern continues in Telangana in the wake of Karnataka results, Congress will have more chances. There is no need to be surprised if BRS has gained in the competition between Congress and BJP.

Party sources say that Chandrababu Naidu thinks friendship is more important than alliance with BJP. It is said that the party has realized that it is important to have an early understanding with BJP whether it is a political alliance or not, and that BJP’s cooperation is necessary for election management.

BJP leaders are of the opinion that whether the BJP exists in AP or not, there is no loss for the party so far and if everything goes well, the party’s situation will improve even in the next five to ten years.
