A Tamil Nadu devotee has been arrested by the police for calling the Tirumala control room and threatening to blow up a bomb and kill the devotees. The accused has been identified as B. Balaji (39) of Salem. At around 11.25 am on August 15, he called the control room of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam in Alipiri from his mobile phone and threatened to detonate it at three o’clock. He said that if the bomb explodes, at least 100 people will die.

Immediately after receiving the phone call, the police rushed. At the Alipiri check post, a nuclear bomb was fired. However, as the bomb was nowhere to be found, it was confirmed as a fake call. Police registered a case and started investigation. The accused Balaji was traced and arrested. Police said yesterday that the accused admitted that he was the one who made the phone call.
