Andhra Train Collision: Driver Was Watching Cricket On Phone, Says Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

It is known that a terrible train accident took place in Vizianagaram district of AP last year in October. In this accident near Kantakapalli junction, 14 people died and many others were injured. Reacting to this incident, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the driver and assistant driver driving the train were watching a cricket match on their phones.

Union Railway Minister Vaishnav made a key statement on the train accident that took place at Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram district last year.

On October 29, 2023, an accident occurred on the Howrah – Chennai line at Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram. A special passenger train going from Visakhapatnam to Palasa stopped on the tracks near Alamanda-Korukonda railway station due to lack of signal. At that time, Visakha-Rayagada special train hit the passenger train which was stopped from behind. In this incident, 14 people died and 50 people were injured.

Speaking to the media in Delhi on Saturday, Union Railway Minister Vaishnav spoke about the new safety measures being taken by the Indian Railways and mentioned this train accident. He said that the pilot and the local pilot were negligent in the recent accident in AP. Both said that the accident took place while they were watching a cricket match. He said, systems are being installed to ensure pilots and assistant pilots. The steps are going to be taken to fully focus on running the train.
