Chief Minister Jagan will inaugurate the Owk Tunnel, which is part of the Galeru-Nagari Sujala Sravanthi project, today. The project of providing irrigation water in Rayalaseema and Nellore districts will be dedicated to the nation.

Owk Tunnel-2, which is an integral part of the Galeru-Nagari Sujala stream scheme, will be completed in the fault zone and dedicated to the nation on Thursday. According to the current design, 20 thousand cusecs will be moved through the Galeru-Nagari flood canal.

Owk tunnel construction work was undertaken during the YSR regime at a cost of Rs 340.53 crores. The YCP alleges that Chandrababu’s government spent only Rs 81.55 crores between 2014-19, while a lion’s share of the work was completed. After YCP came to power, they spent Rs 145.86 crores and successfully completed the work of Tunnel 2.

Another Rs 934 crore has been spent till now for the 3rd tunnel works and has been brought to the final stage. It is said that the work of the third tunnel undertaken at Owk has reached the stage of completion.  1.275 km of work is left.

A total of Rs 1,501.94 crore has been spent on the project for three years.  With the aim of providing drinking and irrigation water to the western mandals of Kurnool and Nandyala districts, the lifts to fill 77 ponds from Handri-Neeva were completed and dedicated to the nation on September 19.
