Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman slammed the propaganda going on in the West that Muslim minorities are being persecuted in India. She said that Muslims in India are much happier than in Pakistan, an Islamic country. Nirmala Sitharaman said that India is second in the list of countries with the largest number of Muslims in the world. She said that the number of Muslims in India is also increasing. If the Muslims were facing violence from the Indian government, their population would not have increased to such an extent since 1947.
Nirmala Sitharaman criticized that the situation of minorities in Pakistan is getting worse day by day. The population of minorities in Pakistan is decreasing day by day. She added that it is wrong to spread falsehood about India without knowing the facts. She made these comments while speaking at a discussion forum held at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington.
Nirmala Sitharaman added, “Every minority has been dwindling in numbers or decimated in Pakistan. Even some of Muslim sects have also been decimated there. Whereas, in our country India, you would find every strand of the Muslim doing their business, their children being educated and given fellowships.
Nirmala Sitharaman also attended the roundtable meeting with business leaders and investors, co-hosted by Confederation of Indian Industry and US India Business Council in US Chamber, Washington DC.
