4  illicit manufacturers of Alprazolam, a drug used for treating anxiety disorders, were apprehended by the sleuths of Telangana State Anti Narcotics Bureau along with Sangareddy district police on Wednesday.  

Sangareddy district police conducted raids on manufacturing units of banned Alprazolam drug. Sangareddy district SP Chennuri Rupesh said that the raw materials used for the manufacture of alprazolam worth 70 lakhs have been seized.

 The police seized the  raw materials, two distillation units and two cars, all worth Rs 70 lakhs. SP Rupesh said that four accused Kamal Brahmananda Goud, Chirugori David, Kondapuram Shiva, Vinod Kumar Sakinala have been taken into custody.

The police revealed that  both Brahmananda Goud and David were previously involved in a similar case of illegal manufacture of alprazolam in the year 2018.  They were in Kandi Jail as under-trial criminals in 2018. Brahmananda Goud, who was on bail two years ago, was helping David’s family members in Patancheru.

Six months ago David also came on bail and hired Kondapuram Siva, a chemist working in a pharma company with his past experience in manufacturing alprazolam, started a clandestine unit of alprazolam by collecting intermediate chemicals available in the market.

They hired Vinod Kumar, a local resident, to supervise the unit, and they rented a single bedroom portion on the first floor of a house in Fasalwadi village in the suburbs of Sangareddy. They moved all the material upstairs and started distilling alprazolam. The police said that the accused, raw materials, supplies, vehicles and mobile phones have been seized.
