An eye-catching amount of cash was found during the patrolling police checks in Visakha. The police seized the cash that was being transported from Visakha to Vijayawada through hawala route. A vehicle carrying a load of washing machines was seen suspiciously by the police who carried out night inspections at NAD Junction.
A full check of the vehicle revealed the cash in the cardboard boxes. Washing machines were found to be moving from Vijayawada to Visakha. The cash in the cardboard boxes is estimated to be 40 lakhs. It was found that the washing machines were sent from a popular electronic appliance store in Vijayawada. It seems that the police have received advance information that hawala cash transactions are being done through electronic devices.
The Income Tax authorities were informed about the illegal cash transactions. In this incident, a vehicle carrying washing machines along with cash was seized. 30 cellphones were also seized from the vehicle. The police are inquiring whether the money was sent in the washing machine to avoid tax evasion or any other reason.
The police registered a case and it was found that the cash was being moved to Vijayawada.
