A woman who tried to commit suicide by jumping into the river due to a family dispute was rescued by the police in time. On the way from Tadepalli to Vijayawada, a woman attempted suicide by jumping from the Krishna river bridge. The incident took place during rush hours on Thursday night. The eyewitnesses immediately informed the police.
At around ten o’clock in the night, Tadepalli police station received information from the control room. As soon as the matter came to know, Tadepalli SI Ramesh along with traffic police reacted. Reached the spot and inspected. Details are not known as only the two-wheeler brought by the victim was present at the scene of the incident. After looking into the river with the help of torch lights, the victim was found to be alive.
At Khana No. 27, the woman who jumped into the river was found holding a tree a short distance away. At present there is only a channel in the middle of the Krishna river. Due to lack of release of water from Prakasam barrage, the flow is low. Immediately after identifying the woman, the police went into the river over the sand dunes and found her. It was found that the victim was seriously injured after jumping down from the bridge.
As there was no way to reach the woman’s place, they started a rescue with local youths. After working for two hours in pitch darkness, they reached the place where the victim was. As there were water ponds here and there in the middle of the river, the police crossed them and reached the spot.
Tadepalli SSI Ramesh along with the night patrolling police themselves brought the victim out on a stretcher after carrying the victim for more than a kilometer in the river. Later she was taken to the hospital. The woman who tried to commit suicide was identified as a woman from Krishna Lanka, Vijayawada.
