Shankar Mahadevan receives grand welcome after winning Grammy award

India’s well known singer cum composer, Shankar Mahadevan has bagged his first Grammy trophy, along with Ustad Zakir Hussain at the Grammys 2024 event held on Thursday, after winning the award, he returned to Mumbai late night and received a lavish welcome from his close friends at the airport. The event was held in Los Angeles. The prestigious award was clinched by ‘Shakti’, the band of Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain.

His friends welcomed him with flowers and chocolates. Shankar interacted with the media to share his happiness on winning the award and also distributed sweets to some celebs. Expressing his rejoicing mood, Shankar Mahadevan said, “Well, what can I say? This is a very, very special moment for me and all of my band members. For me, it’s a dream come true. After touring for 25 years, here we got the Grammys.”

Kindly, he dedicated his award to his wife with love, as she is in poor health. He words on his Instagram handle read, “WE DID IT I never imagined that a band from where I have learnt my music and my musical aesthetics would be the band with whom I would eventually perform and win a Grammy. This is the moment from which I can easily say that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream which came true! thank you Almighty for making this happen! It’s truly “THIS MOMENT”.

In 2023, Shankar Mahadevan was awarded a honorary doctorate by Birmingham City University. He received early fame as an indipop star with his fusion of Carnatic, Hindustani and Jazz. In 1998, his non-film album Breathless stood in the top position in the Indian music charts.
